Kula no na Po‘e Hawaiʻi (KULA), a community-based 501c non-profit, formed in 1992 in Papakōlea to provide programs and services to achieve health equity for our community. Our programs are planned based upon the shared community values of aloha (love), lōkahi (unity), laulima (working together), mālama (care), and kōkua (support) as we pursue health equity. KULA that exists to provide educational and health services to the residents of the Hawaiian Homestead communities of Papakōlea, Kewalo, and Kalāwahine (referred to as Papakōlea). Since 1992, KULA has successfully implemented over 45 programs and received $12 million in grant funding. The Kupuna Community Care Network will provide programs to address the long-term community goal for the Native Hawaiian beneficiaries of the Papakōlea to achieve “health equity” and “age in place” safely which perpetuates the legacy of the founding kūpuna. We will move closer to our goal by 1) increase the use of technology, 2) modify education and training (with a specific focus on pandemic response and Dementia), and 3) increase home and community safety.
